Motley palette Salafis (wooden houses on stilts) - unofficial visit card of the town of Castro, capital of the island of Chiloe. Once home to thousands of farmers and the lure for European pirates, Castro was founded in the XVI century and is one of the three oldest cities in Chile. Most notable today are considered to be a marvelous wooden church, the impressive Museum of Modern Art and a charming dock near Gamboa.
